XR Network+ at Beyond 2024
On 26 and 27 November, XR Network+ will host two panel discussions and a live performance session at Beyond 2024.
Taking place at MediaCity in Salford, Beyond is an annual conference for research, development and innovation in the creative industries.
Panel Discussion: A Silenced Sector – EDI Issues in the Immersive and Virtual Production Industries
Join us from 3:30pm to 4:30pm on 26 November as we present an inclusive session chaired by IDA XR Studio to unveil a new research report on the experiences of women and gender nonconforming individuals in the immersive and virtual production sectors.
The panel will present key findings, addressing discrimination faced by underrepresented groups, and explore how policymakers can help tackle these inequalities.
With participants from IDA, the Black XR Network, techUK and Kings College London, the discussion will also focus on the role we can all play in supporting and championing underrepresented people in our industries.
Panel Discussion: Immersive Technology for the Future of Live Performance
Join us from 10:00am to 11:00am on 27 November as we present a panel on immersive technology for the future of live performance.
The UK is at the forefront of pioneering innovations in live performance. Productions including the Royal Shakespeare Company’s DREAM and The Tempest, and Abba Voyage used immersive technologies to transform the way we experience live performance, responding to audience desires for deeper, more engaged experiences.
Drawing from experience in theatre, music, TV, film, branding and advertising, our panel from the Royal Shakespeare Company, Liminal Stage Productions, the University of York and Sarah Brin Consulting will explore questions including how we can continue to push the boundaries of live immersive performance?
Live performance session: Virtual and Remote Dance Collaboration and Co-Creation
From 3:30pm to 4:30pm on 27 November, join a live performance session from Alexander Whitley, Artistic Director at Alexander Whitley Dance Company and Daniel Strutt, Senior Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London.
The session will showcase a new tool for remote digital dance composition and collaboration that integrates two existing platforms – Alexander Whitley Dance Company’s ‘Otmo’ app and Goldsmiths’ Mocap Streamer – allowing choreographers and dancers to work together in real time, even remotely.
OTMO will also feature as part of the Immersive Futures Lab where attendees can create their own unique performance.
