XR Network+ announces Royal Shakespeare Company R&D challenge projects
XR Network+ has announced the two project teams selected to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) on the RSC research and development challenge.
With project activities commencing in January 2025, the teams will work with the RSC to explore the creative possibilities of virtual production (VP) technologies in live theatre performance.
The Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA) at the University of Bath will work with RSC creatives, performers and production specialists to explore artist-centred workflows for the next generation of performance capture, combining high resolution motion tracking and machine learning solutions.
CAMERA performs world-leading research in Intelligent Visual and Interactive Technology for applications including creative industries, healthcare, sports performance and psychology.
The Centre for Performance, Technology and Equity (PTEQ) at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (Central), University of London will partner with Agile Lens, Preevue and Threshold Acoustics to work collaboratively with creatives, performers and technical teams from the RSC and other theatre organisations to build and test an advanced prototype for a virtual rehearsal room.
Central is a leading training institution for performing arts. Central’s research focuses on contemporary practices of theatre-making and performance, and their cultural histories and lineages.
