New research to map UK Virtual Production infrastructure

Researchers at XR Network+ are running a survey to map virtual production, extended reality or future convergent media research/production infrastructure at higher education institutions and publicly funded organisations across the UK.

The infrastructure mapping survey aims to capture the depth and breadth of UK facilities with applications in the Creative Industries AND those using these technologies in other sectors. It also aims to gather information on how the infrastructure is used, the nature of staffing/skills provision and funding.

The primary outputs from the survey will be an XR Network+ report and associated open access dataset listing all relevant infrastructure. These resources will:

  • Help to grow UK infrastructure research/production capabilities and networks by increasing visibility to researchers, businesses, cultural organisations and practitioners of what each infrastructure provides.
  • Form an evidence base highlighting systemic challenges and opportunities experienced across the sample.

Take part in the survey.

The XR Network+ survey is being conducted in parallel to a separate Immersive Arts infrastructure mapping project which is focusing on UK immersive production facilities at both commercial and non-commercial organisations.
