End date: 19 June 2024
Embedded research and development (R&D) grants of up to £60,000 are available to research staff at UK universities to transfer knowledge to a named industry partner, in areas aligned with virtual production (VP) and the themes of XR Network:
- VP Integration of virtual game worlds and physical content.
- Sound Design in VP.
- Environments, Characters and Objects.
- Digital Assets, Data, Ethics, and Intellectual Property.
- AI and data-driven automation.
- Translation and Impact in the Digital Economy.
Embedded R&D objectives
The overarching outcome from these projects is closer collaboration with industry to help build a clear research agenda for VP and the use of real-time technologies in the screen and creative industries.
Ideal embedded R&D projects will build on established or existing relationships between industry and academic partners that are working towards a tangible outcome. This might, for example, take the form of a researcher embedded within a company, or being dedicated to a specific R&D project with a company.
