XR Network+ seminar: Toward ‘Realtime’ Made in Code
Online
Jane Harris, Director of the University of the Arts London‘s Fashion, Textiles and Technology Institute, will discuss the project, Toward ‘RealTime’ Made In Code – a collaboration between UAL, FTTI, and Numerion Software.
Digital renditions of fabric and the clothed body in gaming, screen, and wider cultural and commercial contexts are slowly evolving.
However, creating digital renditions of textiles and garments that establish a sense of believability when in motion is a key challenge for the industry, for many reasons that span both technical and aesthetic issues.
Toward ‘RealTime’ Made In Code begins to address this challenge in the context of the even more complex realm of ‘real time’ – in order to establish what is required to progress this field. Numerion’s Carbon software was used to render a complex garment structure as a proof of concept for Virtual Production in ‘real time’.
Jane Harris (UAL), and Mike King, (CEO, Numerion) will share the R&D process undertaken, and the adjustments they took to improve simulation and rendering performance while evaluating the aesthetics. They will discuss the challenges and opportunities that come with using supercomputing to move us closer to real time rendition.
