XR Network+ roadshow at UAL
University of the Arts London (UAL)
On Wednesday 12 February 2025, join XR Network+ at UAL to hear about opportunities for collaboration and innovation for researchers, businesses and creatives working in XR (eXtended Reality) and VP (Virtual Production) technologies.
Experience UAL’s specialist XR research lab and hear from Professor Jane Harris, Director of UAL’s Fashion, Textiles and Technology Institute about the institutes’ ambitious plans for XR textiles and dress research.
Hear updates from the CoSTAR (Convergent screen technologies and performance in realtime) programme and find out about two cutting-edge research and development projects funded by XR Network+ that are using XR technologies to diversity and democratise access to fashion and culture.
Donatella Barbieri, London College of Fashion, will talk about research to produce digital 3D recreations of traditional Yoruba performance. This research, undertaken in collaboration with Horniman Museum and Nissen Richards Studio, is one of two case studies using volumetric capture to exhibit culturally-specific performances within museums.
Ben Turnbull, London College of Fashion, will give an update on the “Unlocking 3D Digital Practice” research project. Working alongside live virtual events makers Copper Candle and digital designer Imogen Fox, the collaboration aims to address the current shortcomings in designing and applying hair, make-up and/or prosthetics for digital characters.
Professor Andrew Chitty, Chair of the CoSTAR (Convergent screen technologies and performance in realtime) Network will talk about what’s happening at the five UK CoSTAR research and development labs, and what the new programme offers to researchers, companies and institutions working in screen and performance technologies.
Please note: limited places are available for the lab tours – please book your slot via the UAL Eventbrite page to avoid disappointment.
