Online seminar: Sustainability and XR
Online
Join us on Thursday 23rd October to learn about two research and development (R&D) projects – one supported by XR Network+ and the other funded by Media Cymru.
Terra Datum is a collaboration between Northumbria University, Target 3D and the Advanced Media Production (AMP) studio at PROTO. Project lead Paul Dolan will explain how this XR Network+ funded project measures the computational intensity and energy cost of key virtual production methods at AMP studio, to investigate how to make Virtual Production (VP) more sustainable. This live data then feeds a large-scale, site-specific artwork that displays the energy consumption in a way that brings energy and the digital image together in a direct relationship.
Our second presentation will come from Toby Cameron of On Par Productions. On Par are a film production company committed to reducing their environmental production impacts. Through a Media Cymru–funded R&D project, On Par are investigating how virtual production can reduce carbon emissions in video production, with the aim of developing greener, scalable solutions for the screen sector.
This webinar will be hosted by Greg Mothersdale (Cardiff University, Media Cymru and XR Network+ Co-Investigator). Following the presentations, Greg will talk to the presenters about their work. The webinar will also feature an update on current activity from the wider XR Network+ project.
