New £10,000 funding call open for applications

XR Network+ has launched a new funding opportunity for research staff at UK universities: Prototyping, Impact and Acceleration (PIA) Research & Development Grants. Researchers can bid for up to £10,000 to help establish a research agenda for virtual production in areas aligned with Virtual Production (VP) and XR Network+ themes:

  • VP Integration of virtual game worlds and physical content.
  • Sound Design in VP.
  • Environments, Characters and Objects.
  • Digital Assets, Data, Ethics, and Intellectual Property.
  • AI and data-driven automation.
  • Translation and Impact in the Digital Economy.

Successful projects will identify and start to solve real industry problems relating to VP and establish new relationships between academia and industry. The projects will help to build a clearer research agenda for VP and the use of real-time technologies in the screen and creative industries.

The PIA R&D funding opportunity marks the first phase of projects to be launched by XR Network+, a five year project to establish a research agenda for VP related content creation and consumption for the creative and digital economies.

Funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), XR Network+ is led by XR Stories at the University of York in partnership with the University of Edinburgh, University of Arts London, Cardiff University and Ulster University.
